Over the last few months, there have been persistent reports that Sony is planning to compete with Xbox Game Pass with an enhanced tiered subscription service dubbed “Spartacus,” which would integrate and improve on PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now (and probably retain the PS Plus branding). In the most recent episode of his Grubbsnax programme, Jeff Grubb revealed some new facts regarding what we can expect from each of the three proposed tiers of the new PS Plus.

The “Essential” tier, according to Grubb, will cost $10 per month and have the same features as PS Plus (online play and monthly “free” games). The “Extra” option, which will cost $13 and will essentially combine PS Plus and the current PS Now catalogue, will come next. The “Premium” tier, which will cost $16 and include everything in the Extra level as well as new game trials, vintage games, and cloud streaming, is the most intriguing.

Sony readies its Top Tier Plans of Spartacus to take on Xbox Game Pass.

Without first-party game releases on Day 1, In comparison to Game Pass, Sony’s latest edition of PS Plus will remain at a disadvantage. However, considering the breadth of Sony’s past library, they may be able to tempt some new members if they dive deep enough. If you give me Ape Escape and PaRappa the Rapper, Sony, I’ll consider signing up.

When it comes to when Sony will introduce this new service, Grubb says milestones are being completed behind the scenes, but it doesn’t guarantee a public release is imminent. Of course, take all of this with a grain of salt for the time being, but Sony appears to be working on something.
