Sony Launches World’s Lightest 400mm and 600mm G Master Prime Lenses for Wildlife and Sports Shooters

Sony just made super-telephoto photography a whole lot more portable. The new FE 400mm and FE 600mm G Master lenses pack serious reach into a body light enough to shoot handheld all day — a big deal for wildlife, bird, and sports photographers.

Two New Lenses, Both Under 1 Kg

Sony India has launched the FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS and FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS, both claiming the title of world’s lightest lens in their respective focal-length categories. The 400mm weighs just 994g, while the 600mm comes in at 995g — remarkably light for lenses covering this kind of reach.

The weight balance is engineered to sit closer to the camera body, making it easier to track moving subjects, maintain framing, and shoot handheld even without a tripod or monopod. For more camera gear launches and photography tech news, check out TechnoSports Tech.

Sony FE 400mm & FE 600mm GM OSS: Overview

Built for Speed and Precision

Both lenses use three Super ED glass elements and one ED glass element to control chromatic aberration, paired with Sony’s Nano AR Coating II to minimize ghosting and flare in backlit shots. Autofocus is handled by two XD Linear Motors, delivering fast, quiet tracking — and both lenses are fully compatible with the Sony Alpha 9 III‘s 120fps continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking.

Built-in optical image stabilization, Active Mode compatibility, and breathing compensation support round out the video and stills performance, while a dust- and moisture-resistant build with fluorine coating makes them field-ready.

Where to Buy?

Both lenses go on sale September 24, 2026 across Sony Centers, Alpha Flagship stores, authorized dealers, and platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. For more Sony Alpha launches and lens reviews, keep following TechnoSports.
