Wondering if you can design your own Hunter in Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive? The short answer is no—this action RPG keeps you in Sung Jinwoo’s shoes throughout the main story. However, the game offers something arguably better: customizable builds through class systems and over 20 playable Hunters you can unlock. Here’s the complete breakdown of character options in Overdrive.

Solo Leveling Character Customization Overview

Why No Character Creation?

Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive is designed as a story-driven action RPG where you experience Sung Jinwoo’s transformation from E-rank weakling to the Shadow Monarch. The game follows the webtoon narrative closely, making custom characters narratively impossible.

Unlike the mobile gacha version, Overdrive focuses on delivering a premium Devil May Cry-style experience where you play as the main character most of the time, with other Hunters serving as support or for specific missions.

The Four Hunter Classes

While you can’t design a new face, you get complete control over Jinwoo’s combat identity through class selection:

Assassin (Highest Difficulty): Lightning-fast dagger combos requiring precise timing and positioning. Perfect for skilled players who love high-risk, high-reward gameplay.

Ruler (Hard): Command-oriented playstyle that balances offense and support. Rewards strategic thinking and battlefield control.

Elementalist (Normal): Magic-focused ranged combat with area-of-effect abilities. Ideal for players who prefer keeping enemies at distance.

Duelist (Easy): Straightforward melee combat with forgiving mechanics. Great starting point for newcomers to action RPGs.

Build Customization Options

Even without custom faces, Overdrive offers deep character building through five categories:

Stat Points: Allocate points into Strength, Vitality, Agility, Intelligence, or Perception each level
Weapons: Forge and upgrade iconic equipment like Demon King’s Daggers and Kasaka’s Venom Fang
Skill Trees: Eight distinct job advancement paths with unique abilities
Blessing Stones: Special items that enhance specific combat aspects
Artifacts: Equipment sets like Aquamarine that trigger special effects

Recruiting Playable Hunters

The game features over 20 playable characters that you can use during optional stages and when playing online with friends. These include fan favorites like Woo Jinchul, Emma Laurent, Lee Joohee, and Alicia Blanche.

The Hunter Draw system uses negotiation instead of gacha mechanics. Offer Hunt Coins to potential recruits, with three attempts per character. Higher offers increase recruitment success rates, but failed negotiations cost coins permanently.

FAQs

Q: Can I change my class after starting the game?

Yes! Unlike character appearance, class selection isn’t permanent. You can reset skill points and experiment with different builds as you progress, allowing you to adapt your playstyle to different challenges.

Q: Do recruited Hunters need separate leveling?

No! The level of Hunters matches Sung Jinwoo’s current level exactly, and missions completed with Hunter squads contribute to Jinwoo’s experience. You won’t need to grind each character individually.
