According to a minor update released by Tipper Digital Chat Station, a new version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will offer satellite communication. Though the screenshot from Weibo below does not include the official name of the chipset, the model number ‘SM8650’ is solid proof that the individual is referring to the future SoC.

In terms of the special version,’ the source could be referring to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, which will be exclusive to Samsung’s next Galaxy S24 series.

Samsung has been rumoured to add satellite connectivity to its high-end smartphones, although the specific models have not been disclosed. While we’re on the subject of satellite connectivity, Qualcomm formally revealed its Snapdragon Satellite feature earlier this year at CES, which is a ‘pole to pole’ emergency message service that works similarly to Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite.

While we’re on the subject of satellite connectivity, Qualcomm formally revealed its Snapdragon Satellite feature earlier this year at CES, which is a ‘pole to pole’ emergency message service that works similarly to Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite.

What was odd about the news was that there was no update from Qualcomm, despite the firm indicating that handsets powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 would feature Snapdragon Satellite compatibility. A agreement between the San Diego corporation and Iridium Communications, a global satellite communications firm based in the United States, may have fallen through.
