The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is anticipated to be unveiled at Qualcomm‘s annual Snapdragon Summit, and one insider tip suggests that the company may be working on two variations, each intended for a specific category of Android handsets.

One Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 model with a CPU frequency in the 3.40-3.50GHz range may be unveiled, according to the machine translation on Digital Chat Station’s Weibo account. Additionally, the tipper says that the GPU speed might be enhanced appropriately. Looking at the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, which is manufactured using the same 4nm TSMC manufacturing process used to mass produce the A16 Bionic, Qualcomm’s current flagship mobile SoC underwent a number of enhancements.

The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 actually defeated the A15 Bionic in real-world tests, demonstrating the amazing results that can be achieved by switching from Samsung to TSMC’s manufacturing process.

Similar to how the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s switch to TSMC’s energy-efficient 4nm node allows Qualcomm to experiment with greater CPU and GPU clock speeds without always worrying about the chipset overheating.

Manufacturers who want only the best for their Android flagships will be given access to the more expensive version. While the following is pure conjecture, Samsung might equip the Galaxy S23 Ultra with the most powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip while using a less potent version in the less expensive variants. Similar to this, since gaming smartphones from companies like ASUS typically have better cooling systems, we might see Qualcomm’s speedier SoC perform well in those devices.
