SM Entertainment has just sent a clear message to anyone targeting its artists online: deleting a post or deactivating an account won’t make legal consequences disappear.
What SM Entertainment Announced
On July 10, the agency released a statement confirming it has already filed legal complaints against numerous accounts across major platforms — including X (formerly Twitter), DC Inside, YouTube, theqoo, various Naver and Daum cafes, Nate Pann, Instiz, MLB Park, FM Korea, Instagram, and Threads. According to SM, these complaints stem from reports submitted through its fan-reporting system, KWANGYA 119, regarding violations of its artists’ rights.
SM Entertainment: Overview
| Detail | Info |
|---|---|
| Announcement Date | July 10, 2026 |
| Reporting Channel | KWANGYA 119 |
| Platforms Involved | X, DC Inside, YouTube, theqoo, Naver/Daum cafes, and more |
| Types of Violations Cited | False information, defamation, sexual harassment, deepfakes, copyright infringement |
| Agency Stance | Zero-tolerance, no leniency |
No Escape Through Deletion or Anonymity
SM emphasized that it had already secured sufficient evidence through real-time monitoring before any posts were removed, meaning deleting content or going private offers no real protection from legal liability. The agency says it will continue working with legal representatives to pursue action against offenders “without exception.”
This kind of aggressive legal stance against online abuse isn’t unique to SM — fans of other major K-pop acts have pushed for similar accountability. For more on that broader trend, see TechnoSports’ coverage of the #HYBEProtectJungkook movement, where BTS fans demanded stronger legal action against deepfake creators and stalkers.
Why This Matters
Online harassment, deepfakes, and defamation have become a persistent problem across the K-pop industry, often disproportionately targeting idols. SM’s statement signals a broader shift among agencies toward proactive legal enforcement rather than reactive takedown requests — a move likely to be watched closely by other entertainment companies facing similar issues.
