What Is Sisu: Road to Revenge About?

Set in 1946, one year after the brutal events of the original, Aatami Korpi returns to his old family home in Soviet-occupied Karelia — not to fight, but to dismantle it and finally find some peace. That plan goes sideways fast.
A ruthless Red Army officer named Igor Draganov (played with menacing intensity by Stephen Lang of Avatar fame) hunts Aatami down, driven by a deeply personal grudge. What follows is a relentless cross-country chase through war-ravaged borderlands, complete with tanks, planes, and missile-fuelled mayhem that makes the original look restrained. Yes, there’s literally a scene involving a ballistic missile used as a personal booster. It’s that kind of film — and we mean that as the highest compliment.
Why This Film Is Worth Your Saturday Night
Director Jalmari Helander cranks the absurdity dial all the way up while keeping the soul of the original intact: near-silent hero, creative kills, and a deeply satisfying underdog-vs-empire energy. The Sisu formula of “show, don’t tell” storytelling works just as well here, even if the theatrical box office ($10M against a $12.2M budget) suggests the wider public is yet to catch on.
That’s exactly why Netflix is the perfect home for this film. Cult action movies like this thrive on streaming, where word of mouth does what marketing couldn’t.
