Silambarasan’s Role in ‘Thug Life’: From Gangster to Kamal Haasan’s Son
Reportedly, Silambarasan will portray the role of Kamal Haasan’s son in the movie. His appearance, characterized by long hair, echoes his portrayal in the film “Kaalai.” The poster caption, “In the Realms of Dust, a New Thug Arises! STR,” hints at Simbu’s depiction as a gangster in the film. However, in the promotional material, he is depicted driving an SUV affiliated with the ‘Border Defence Force’ in a desert setting, possibly indicating a sequence set in Rajasthan. As is typical of Mani Ratnam’s projects, the plot and other details of the film remain shrouded in mystery.
Not long ago, Silambarasan portrayed an elderly gangster in “Pathu Thala,” with Gautham Karthick playing his confidant. In “Thug Life,” Silambarasan appears to assume a role akin to Gautham’s character from “Pathu Thala.” Initially, Dulquer Salmaan was cast for the role but withdrew from the project for reasons unknown.
This marks the second collaboration between Silambarasan and Mani Ratnam, who previously collaborated on “Chekka Sivantha Vaanam,” also a gangster drama. It also signifies the second project involving Silambarasan and Kamal Haasan, who are collaborating on an untitled venture with Silambarasan in the lead and Kamal Haasan serving as the producer.
Star-Studded ‘Thug Life’: Ali Fazal’s Debut and Kamal Haasan’s Collaboration with Mani Ratnam
Actor Ali Fazal has confirmed his participation in Mani Ratnam’s “Thug Life,” featuring Kamal Haasan. This marks Ali’s debut in South Indian cinema. “I am truly thrilled to be a part of Mani sir’s vision for Thug Life,” Ali expressed in a statement. “And I can only hope I bring something of significance to this canvas. It’s also an honor to work alongside Kamal Haasan sir and share notes with him.”
With Silambarasan joining the cast of “Thug Life,” the film’s star power has significantly escalated. Besides these two stars, the movie boasts a stellar ensemble including Abhirami, Nasser, Trisha, Gautham Karthik, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Joju George in pivotal roles. AR Rahman is helming the music composition for the film. In a recent interview, Kamal revealed that they’ve already composed a song for the film within a mere five hours.
The narrative of ‘Thug Life’ is penned by Kamal Haasan himself. Initially, Jayam Ravi was slated to portray a significant character. However, due to scheduling conflicts, he has withdrawn from the project. Subsequently, reports indicate that Ashok Selvan has been selected to fill that role.
“Thug Life” marks the reunion of Kamal Haasan with Mani Ratnam after their 1987 cult classic “Nayakan.”
Dulquer Salmaan and Jayam Ravi Out: Casting Changes in ‘Thug Life’ and Speculations on Ashok Selvan’s Role
Dulquer Salmaan was initially set to play a significant role in Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s “Thug Life.” However, due to scheduling conflicts, the Malayali actor was replaced by Simbu, missing out on a valuable opportunity to be part of the project. Similarly, Jayam Ravi is no longer associated with “Thug Life” as he also encountered scheduling conflicts.
Recent speculations in the Kollywood film industry suggest that Ashok Selvan might step in to replace Jayam Ravi in this action-packed drama. Although there’s no official confirmation yet, the rumor has gained considerable traction. Ashok Selvan has previously delivered hits like “Oh My Kadavule” and “Por Thozhil,” and if he joins “Thug Life,” it could significantly propel his career forward.
Produced by Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, R Mahendran, and Siva Ananth under Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies banners, the film will be presented by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies.
