Disney’s upcoming “Snow White” remake set photographs appear to corroborate the decision to do away with the seven dwarfs, raising questions about if this is an attempt to be more inclusive that has failed.
Ahead of its 2024 release, the Disney remake will star Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and “West Side Story” actress Rachel Zegler in the title role of Snow White.
However, the set photographs, which were originally made public by the Daily Mail on Friday, reveal that a varied collection of characters will be used in the plot instead of the seven dwarfs from the first film. The fresh photos were probably taken on Thursday during filming reshoots, according to IMDb.
Later, Disney revealed to The Daily Beast that the images were shot during production. Despite what the Daily Mail initially claimed, the advertisement for “Snow White” did not include Zegler and the actor Andrew Burnap, who has been chosen to play the male lead in the movie.
Snow white Rumors
The images of Snow White have generated debate online, particularly among certain conservatives. The photographs prompted Fox News commentator Tomi Lahren to tweet that Disney was “a joke.”
“So, in order to be more ‘politically correct,’ they have one tiny person playing a dwarf?” The job or the check didn’t go to six other little individuals, so how is this more “sensitive” than that? She wrote, “Disney is a joke.
TikTokers have also argued over whether Disney’s efforts to be inclusive are actually backfiring and resulting in fewer job possibilities for performers who identify as dwarfs.
Disney’s newest live-action version has generated little controversy new. Actor Peter Dinklage of “Game of Thrones” claimed in 2022 that it was a “fucking backward story of seven dwarfs living in a cave.”
In response, Disney said it had consulted “with members of the dwarfism community” before the film’s pre-production.
One user claimed in a widely shared tweet on Friday in reference to Dinklage’s remarks that the actor was not at fault for Disney’s choice to recreate the seven dwarfs.
He never recommended not hiring them; rather, he advised portraying them as complex individuals rather than stereotypes. Disney decided not to portray them in any way in retaliation, the tweet claims.
When Insider contacted Disney representatives for comment after business hours, they did not react right away.
