Shillong Lajong handed East Bengal a shocking 2-1 defeat in the Durand Cup quarter finals, eliminating last year’s finalists from the tournament. A late goal from Figo ensured that the home team made it to the last four.
The visitors went behind early, courtesy of a goal from Rudwere, who assisted Figo for the winner late in the game. In spite of several great opportunities, the Torch Bearers were not able to test the opposition goalkeeper enough.

In spite of several new additions to their line-up, East Bengal looked very brittle in defence. While their attacking line-up was driven by incredible passing from Madih Talal, the defence was extremely shaky.
Prabhsukhan Gill could have easily conceded a few more goals, especially after slipping with the ball at his feet late in the game. However, they were lucky to survive and not concede any more.
After trying hard all game, Nandhakumar Sekhar was able to finally score to level things up with around ten minutes remaining. However, some very sloppy defending once again cost the Red and Golds their spot in the semis.
Who will Shillong face in the semifinal?
Not yet decided.
