Shah Rukh Khan Wore His Movie Costume to Marry Gauri Khan: The Heartwarming Wedding Story

Every love story has its unique charm, but Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s wedding tale is pure Bollywood magic. Did you know that the King of Romance wore a costume from his film Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman to his own wedding? Here’s the beautiful story behind one of Bollywood’s most enduring marriages.

Shah Rukh Khan-Gauri Wedding: Overview

The Borrowed Costume Story

In 1991, Shah Rukh Khan was a struggling television actor who had just entered Bollywood. With limited financial resources but unlimited love for Gauri, he faced a dilemma: what to wear for his wedding? The solution came from an unexpected source—his upcoming film Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman.

According to family accounts shared over the years, Shah Rukh borrowed a bandhgala suit from the film’s costume department for his wedding ceremony. The irony? The film’s title translates to “Raju Became a Gentleman”—and SRK literally became a gentleman (groom) wearing Raju’s costume!

Why This Story Melts Hearts

This anecdote perfectly captures the essence of Shah Rukh and Gauri’s relationship—genuine, unpretentious, and built on love rather than materialism. At a time when elaborate celebrity weddings with designer outfits were becoming the norm, SRK’s practical choice showcased his priorities.

Gauri Khan, in various interviews featured on Vogue India, has fondly recalled their simple wedding, emphasizing that their focus was on commitment rather than extravagance. The couple’s six-year courtship before marriage, despite family opposition, demonstrated their dedication to each other.

From Struggling Actor to King Khan

Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, directed by Aziz Mirza, released in November 1992—exactly one year after their wedding. The film became a moderate success and marked SRK’s transition from television to cinema. That borrowed costume symbolized not just wedding attire but the beginning of an extraordinary journey.

Fast forward to 2025, and Shah Rukh Khan owns luxury brands, designs his own looks, and has become global fashion icon. Yet, this humble beginning remains his most cherished style moment. Explore more about SRK’s career milestones at TechnoSports.
