Yesterday, Quique Setien’s men defeated Napoli at the Camp Nou by 3-1 due to Messi’s amazing performance and the team’s collective effort in the first half. The 61-year-old’s tactics and efforts have helped to the Blaugranas to reach in the final eight of the tournament on Saturday.
Thanks to the goals of Clement Lenglet, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez that has helped FC Barcelona to reach quarter-finals for a record 13th successive time. Setien also seemed pretty happy with his team in the after-match press conference and even said about the prospect of facing Bayern Munich next week.
Here’s what he said regarding his team’s performance against Napoli:
“This is a first step well taken. The first few minutes Napoli had us working hard. They are a great team. We had to defend with lots of intensity and commitment. If they’d scored again it would have been a big boost for Napoli so our big priority was to defend well. That said, there were some nerves.”
“Lionel took quite a fierce knock in that challenge [against Koulibaly] but I don’t think it’ll become a big problem for him.”
“This was the first forward step we wanted and now it’s to be hoped we play the matches in front of us with the same attitude which we demonstrated here. The team played well and we deserved this.”
“I’ve congratulated Gattuso again for the extraordinary work he’s doing. He has really developed his team. His work is top merit and I’m a loyal admirer of his methods.”
Setien is also wary of their next strong opponent who is the Bundesliga champion this season and has excelled with their performance whether it’s for Champions League or the German League and they look forward to winning the treble this season. Quique Setien spoke:
“All the rivals who are left are strong and there are only complicated matches left. So it’ll be tough for us but for Bayern too. They’re a great side but so are we.”
The FC Barcelona coach has to plan well and focus on the next game on Friday. Setien has even described the quarter-final against Bayern Munich as a ‘complicated match’ but we can only hope for the best in Lisbon.
