The 22-man squad for Spain’s Olympics team has been released, and it contains some notable absentees. Most prominently, Sergio Ramos has been left out of the squad after missing out on the squad under Luis Enrique for the Euros.

Unai Simon, Pau Torres, Eric Garcia, Pedri, Mikel Oyarzabal and Dani Olmo are the only players who are common to both squads. They earned a hard-fought victory against Croatia last night and will face Switzerland in the quarter-finals of the Euros for a place in the semi-finals.

Notable players like Ferran Torres and Borja Mayoral have also been left out of the squad in addition to Ramos. The former Real Madrid skipper was plagued by injuries for the latter half of the season, and recently ended his 16-year long spell with Los Blancos due to the expiry of his contract.

Here is the Spain Olympics squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Alvaro Fernandez (Huesca), Unai Simon (Athletic Club), Alex Domínguez (Las Palmas).

Defenders: Oscar Mingueza (Barcelona), Jesus Vallejo (Granada), Eric Garcia (Barcelona), Pau Torres (Villarreal), Oscar Gil (Espanyol), Juan Miranda (Real Betis).

Midfielders: Marc Cucurella (Getafe), Jon Moncayola (Osasuna), Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad), Dani Ceballos (Real Madrid), Mikel Merino (Real Sociedad), Carlos Soler (Valencia), Pedri (Barcelona).

Forwards: Bryan Gil (Sevilla), Marco Asensio (Real Madrid), Dani Olmo (RB Leipzig), Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad), Rafa Mir (Wolves), Javi Puado (Espanyol).

The Olympics are set to begin on June 30 after being delayed from last year due to the coronavirus pandemic halting all sporting events.
