Scooby-Doo and His Crew are returning in a New Live-Action Series on Netflix. The iconic tune of “Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you?” has been echoing in the hearts of Scooby-Doo fans ever since news of a potential live-action series based on the beloved Warner Bros. IP emerged.

According to Variety reports, it seems that the streaming powerhouse Netflix is in talks to bring to life ‘Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series,’ with writers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg at the helm.

The one-hour drama venture is reportedly close to securing a deal with the streaming platform, complete with a script-to-series commitment. While specific plot details remain undisclosed, it’s confirmed to draw inspiration from the beloved Hanna-Barbera cartoon.

Warner Bros. Television is set to produce the series, following the recent launch of the “Dead Boys Detectives” show on Netflix by the studio.

Who will direct the Scooby-Doo live-action?

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are not only the writers but also the executive producers, alongside Andre Nemec and Jeff Pinkner, under their Midnight Radio banner. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman will also serve as executive producers through Berlanti Productions, which is presently under an overall deal at WBTV. Jonathan Gabay from Berlanti Productions and Adrienne Erickson will co-executive produce the project.

The Scooby-Doo! franchise, conceived by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, debuted in 1969 with their inaugural animated series “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” under the Hanna-Barbera banner (later assimilated into Warner Bros. Animation).

This Netflix venture wouldn’t mark the franchise’s first foray into live-action. Notably, “The Scooby-Doo live-action series” hit screens in 2002, featuring a star-studded cast including Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini, with Neil Fanning lending his voice to Scooby. According to Variety, the film enjoyed considerable success at the box office, amassing over USD 250 million worldwide.

In 2004, a sequel titled ‘Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed’, featuring the original cast, hit theaters and earned more than USD 180 million. Additionally, the live-action TV movie ‘Scooby Doo! The Mystery Begins debuted in 2009, followed by its sequel in 2010.

Over the years, a diverse array of Scooby-Doo animated ventures has emerged, tracing back to the original cartoon series in the late 1960s. Since then, numerous iterations have surfaced, encompassing various animated series and films.
