Nicole Kidman is back in the lab — and this time, she’s hunting a child abductor. Here’s everything you need to know about one of Prime Video’s most anticipated returns.
It’s Officially Happening — And Fast
Prime Video has officially confirmed that Scarpetta Season 2 is in production, with filming already underway as of March 9, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Amazon MGM Studios made the announcement on March 17, 2026, with Jamie Lee Curtis summing it up perfectly in three words: “LFG.” Netflix Fans didn’t even have a week to recover from Season 1’s jaw-dropping finale before the cameras started rolling again.

What Will Season 2 Be About?
Showrunner Liz Sarnoff confirmed that Season 2 picks up where the finale left off, resolving lingering mysteries before moving into an entirely new case — a child abduction — making it, in her words, “super exciting.” HBO Max
Sarnoff has also teased that Season 2 will be considerably darker than Season 1, pushing the storytelling further in terms of suspense and character complexity. IMDb
The season will adapt Patricia Cornwell’s fourth and fifth novels — Cruel and Unusual and The Body Farm — both gripping, grim narratives perfectly aligned with the show’s tone.
Scarpetta is based on the iconic Kay Scarpetta novel series by Patricia Cornwell, which has spanned 29 books since 1990 — giving the showrunners a rich well of material to draw from for seasons to come.
When Can We Expect Season 2?
Given that filming only began in March 2026, and post-production on a forensic period drama requires considerable time, the Season 2 release date is projected for mid-to-late 2027. Netflix
Seven of the eight Season 2 episodes are already written, which positions the production for a smooth, efficient shoot. PRIMETIMER
