Roma have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Sardar Azmoun on a loan deal. The Bundesliga side will receive a loan fee worth €1.5-2 million for the striker, who is expected to cover for the long-term injury to Tammy Abraham.
Jose Mourinho had tried to sign the Iran international several times in the past, but a move did not materialise. Now, the Special One will finally get his man for the coming season. Andrea Belotti is the only striker available for the club right now, given Paulo Dybala is not preferred to lead the line.
Sardar Azmoun to join Roma from Bayer Leverkusen
The striker was very impressive for Zenit, where he scored 62 goals and provided 23 assists in 104 games. He has played 44 games for Bayer Leverkusen since his transfer in January 2022, scoring and assisting five goals each.
It will be interesting to see how the 28-year-old fares at his new club, given how much Jose Mourinho pushed to sign him. The forward is currently in Rome to complete the medical tests and formalities for the transfer to be completed.
Roma have a €12 million buy option as part of the loan deal in case they want to sign Sardar Azmoun permanently. The Iran international also had interest from Fulham, but preferred joining Roma to play for Mourinho.
The Giallorossi are also in talks with Chelsea to loan Romelu Lukaku for the coming season. Their offer is to cover his entire wages for the 23/24 season, bht they will have to pay a hefty loan fee to get the Belgian to sign.
