Chelsea’s splurging on youngsters is continuing with Deivid Washington on his way to Europe. The Brazilian youngster will be loaned out to Strasbourg for the coming season, after their acquisition by BlueCo. Santos are set to accept a deal worth €20 million in total for the youngster, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.

Santos will receive €15 million upfront for the forward, while €5 million will be available in the form of add-ons. The documents are now being prepared for the move to go through.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have started developing their multi-club model, and have signed Patrick Vieira as the new head coach of Strasbourg. They are planning to use the Ligue 1 club as their sister club for the development of talented youngsters.

Washington is a relatively young striker, but one that is highly rated considering his physical capabilities. The player is deceivingly agile for his stature, and has the potential to develop into a top talent in the future.

However, there will be questions about his ability to make it amongst the big teams considering how crowded the locker room already is at Chelsea. Considering their investment in talent and repeated mentions of the “long-term project”, one can expect the youngsters to be slowly phased in over the decade. But, the quick signings might be to the detriment of that cause if things don’t work in favour of the Blues.
