Samsung's new patent reveals an innovtive under-display camera solution

For the past few years, Samsung has been working its best on the displays of smartphones, such as reducing its bezels, punch-hole selfie camera, AMOLED panel, and many more. The main motive is to get a full-screen immersive display without any obstacle like the front camera or bezels. As of now, Samsung has almost succeeded in getting almost bezel-less displays, but to get a full-screen experience there should be a vanishing of the front camera setup.

The only way to achieve a full-screen display has to be an under-display selfie camera what we’ve already seen in the ZTE Axon 20 5G, which is the first-ever smartphone in the world to feature an under-display selfie camera. Samsung also enlisted its name to make such kind of product that will have an under-display selfie camera.

In May 2020, Samsung Display had filed a patent titled ‘Display Device’ with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office), and later on December 31, 202, its documentation got published. The patent images are showing Samsung’s under-display camera implementation on its future smartphones.

In that solution, we find two display parts, in which, the first screen (primary) with a better resolution while the second screen has a comparatively lower resolution. For a change, the second part can also be replaced to the entire top side of the handset or any of the sides on top. These sections are specially designed for not only hiding the selfie camera but also the LED flash and sensors. As more light cannot enter underneath the display, this setup will use infrared rays to easily recognize objects/people. It is also well able to calculate the distance between the phone and the objects/people.
