Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 to See a Significant Price Hike, Possibly Due to Exclusive GenAI Features

Samsung’s sixth-generation foldable series is among the most awaited handsets at Galaxy Unpacked 2024. The event is now fast approaching, and in that time we heard plenty of reports about the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Fold 6, which will continue to be incoming rumors right up until launch. The first rumor claimed the Fold 6 could either be cheaper or priced similarly to older models. However, a few new leaks show slightly different pricing for the book-style fold variant.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Price Hike

The price of the Fold series from Samsung has been fairly consistent over the years Fold 3 and later models were $1,799. Early models have seen a range of price points, $1,980 for the OG fold and $1,999 for the Z Fold 2. As per the SmartPrix report, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 base configuration 256GB starts at US$1,899.99, which is US$100 cheaper than the Z Fold 5 at launch. This also extends to $1499 and $1799 for the 512GB and 1TB versions respectively.

Consumers may be surprised by the high price of Galaxy Z Fold 6, as many other companies are currently offering foldable phones for cheaper prices. Of course, this price is for the US market and other regions might have different pricing tactics. Part of the increase is down to the take-up of Galaxy AI features in a foldable device for the first time. In addition to the pricing, the Fold 6 will be available in three colors: Navy, Silver Shadow, and Pink, with potentially more options available online, similar to previous releases.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be lighter than its predecessor, weighing 239 grams compared to the Fold 5’s 253 grams. While Vivo’s Fold 3 Pro currently holds the title for the lightest foldable, the Fold 6 comes close. The new model will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and feature a 7.6-inch inner display. It will also have a sleeker design with smaller hinges and rounded edges.
