The dream has come to an end. Samsung aimed to dramatically boost its diminishing market share in the foldable industry with the less expensive and slimmer Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE, which would have cost little less than $1000 if it hadn’t been for leaked plans. Samsung, however, has modified its plans, according to the most recent information from industry sources.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE launch plan to be cancelled for 2024

According to a report from The Elec, Samsung is probably reevaluating its schedule for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE’s launch. According to the source, this month will see the bulk production of Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 foldable components by the company’s component partners. It follows that just these foldable devices are expected to be brought by the corporation.

According to the source, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 possesses a pen (S Pen), while the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE was allegedly developed without this digitiser, which is for support of styluses. This is another way that the two folding phones differ from each other. The FE version was also expected to be more compact than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The less expensive phone, if it materialized, was also rumored to sport an IPX8 grade and a 200,000 fold rating. This rating is identical to that of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (and likely what the Z Fold 6 will deliver as well), suggesting that Samsung has no intention of cutting any corners.

In any case, if Samsung has indeed canceled the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE, it doesn’t seem like we’ll learn how they intended to reduce expenses this year. Samsung was unable to produce a less expensive model that was any thinner than those made by competing Chinese companies, the report said. Samsung’s decision to abandon the less expensive model is partly attributed to a lack of product distinction and market uncertainty.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5’s release last year marked a revision of the Korean tech giant’s foldable phone lineup. The smartphone included a 4400mAh fast-charging battery and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with 12 GB RAM. In the Indian market, the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is now Rs 1,54,999.
