Samsung is venturing into new territory with the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip FE, a more affordable version of its popular foldable phone aimed at a broader audience. We lack details as of the time of publishing, but new leaks suggest this “low-cost” foldable may get a pretty substantial change from Samsung. This could be none other than the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip FE, which is expected to use the Exynos 2400 chipset, likely an older gen by the time of launch.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE May Use Older Exynos Chipset for Affordability

Typically, Samsung reserves the latest generation chip for its FE devices but equipping the Galaxy Z Flip FE with a prior-gen chip signals a strong strategic departure by Samsung. In contrast, the Galaxy S FE series has historically sported lower-spec variants of that year’s chips — like the anticipated Exynos 2400e for the Galaxy S24 FE — but Z Flip FE could use better-proven, older silicon to cut costs in production. If that is in fact the case, then it would be a clever move that could help bring down the prices of foldable and expand the market—something Samsung has never been able to do successfully.

Some fans may not be happy with Samsung’s use of an older SoC, yet the company is seemingly pushed by price rationality. The company is wagering that the Exynos 2400 will be sufficient through 2025 to deliver flagship capabilities at a somewhat lower price. It is worth mentioning that it is not yet known whether the Galaxy Z Fold FE will go through a similar path.

The company could equip that model with different processors to enable unique price-to-performance ratios for each of the Fan Edition devices. The Z Flip FE could finally bring foldable tech back down to earth for people who have stared longingly at the Z series but were ultimately turned away by the expense. Samsung executives have said that the Fan Edition strategy could be how it finds a path to more affordable foldable devices.
