Samsung Galaxy S24 is going to use layered battery technology

As of this writing, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is still around ten months away, which indicates that the development of the components that will go inside it should be nearing completion in order to enable sufficient time for testing and manufacture.

The most recent report to come out of South Korea suggests that the upcoming bar flagship may carry with it some innovative battery technology that has been taken from the electric vehicle business.

All You Need to Know About Samsung Galaxy S24 Battery!

According to The Elec, Samsung’s SDI division, which is in charge of battery research and development, is allegedly trying to bring stacked batteries to the market for smartphones. This does not refer to a change in the chemistry that makes up the battery, but rather to the arrangement of the cells within the battery.

The result is the same, however, which is a higher energy density, which enables a greater capacity to be packed into the same amount of space. The Chinese battery manufacturer CATL has a stacked battery with an even higher capacity of 140kWh, while the Audi Q8 e-tron employed a comparable technology to fit a 114kWh battery inside of it.

Even though the conditions under which smartphone batteries function are obviously very different from those under which electric vehicle power packs work, the analysis suggests that everyone should anticipate a 10% rise in density.

This does not necessarily indicate that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a battery capacity of 5,500mAh, as opposed to the Galaxy S23 Ultra‘s battery capacity of 5,000mAh. It is possible that Samsung may use the upgraded pack to cram the same capacity into a smaller cell, which will either free up space for other components or make it possible for the phone to be smaller.

Assembled batteries are one of the first parts of a smartphone to be leaked during its development, so it is expected to hear more about this in the near future. A new camera system and a significant increase in the GPU power have been rumored for the Galaxy S24.
