It has been customary for us to see flagship chipsets from Qualcomm always be featured on the most premium of devices, either flagships or the devices that fall on the higher end of the price spectrum. Samsung has integrated Qualcomm’s current flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 888 into its premium devices like the Galaxy S20 FE. But, what the South Korean giant has in store for mid-range users ahead might shock the entire industry as a whole.

Recently, a leaked benchmark revealed that the upcoming Galaxy M52 5G was tested with a Snapdragon 888 chipset, but the CPU cluster information is different.

The upcoming Galaxy M52 5G was spotted with the model code SM-M526BR was spotted by GalaxyClub in GeekBench. The specs of the smartphone mention the processor as Qualcomm ‘lahaina’ processor, this is a codename for the Snapdragon 888. This model code SM-M526BR is the upcoming Galaxy M52 5G that Samsung is looking to release in Europe, but it is a mid-range device and not a flagship so it is surprising to see the Snapdragon 888 mentioned.

Samsung might be just trying out a new strategy by incorporating higher-end chipsets in more affordable smartphones. The confusing aspect however is, the Snapdragon 888 is divided into a 1+3+4 CPU cluster, where the single core is the Cortex-X1.

In the Geekbench listing, there are only two CPU clusters, both of them featuring four cores. It is unknown for now if Samsung got its hands on a different variant of the Snapdragon 888 or if it is just a typo or if someone manipulated the benchmark.

But, if this does turn out to be true then Samsung would be turning a lot of heads in the industry and customers would rejoice as they would not have to spend excess amounts on flagship devices. The launch of the M52 5G in Europe could be its trial ground to see how the people would react, if it is a success then Samsung would most likely transition more variants to other regions in the coming months.
