Samsung Galaxy Book S with Snapdragon 8cx finally starts getting shipped

In the last month of 2018, when the Snapdragon 8cx chip was announced we were all very excited to see new laptops with more battery life and perform efficiently. Back in August 2019, Samsung announced the first ultrabook that runs on Windows 10 with Qualcomm’s specially optimized 7nm 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 8cx chipset will hit the market from January 31.

If we recall the specs of the Snapdragon 8cx, this is an ARM-based chipset that features 4 Kryo 495 Gold cores are based on the ARM Cortex-A76 architecture clocked at up to 2.84 GHz. On the other hand, we have 4 Kryo 495 Silver cores are small ARM Cortex-A55 cores for power efficiency and clocked at 1.9 GHz under load.

Then there’s the integrated Adreno 680 graphics and the integrated X24 LTE modem supports up to 2 Gbps download speeds. The SoC integrates ac-Wifi and a dual-channel 32-bit 1866 MHz LPDDR4x memory controller. Being a fanless 7W CPU this SoC draws a lot lesser power and gives all-day battery life.

The Galaxy Book S is itself very sleek and features a 13.3-inch display and weighing under 1 kg and also promises 25 hours of video playback from its 42 Wh battery which supports fast charging as well. The ultrabook is very sleek just 11.8 mm (0.46-inches) thick and on top of it, we have a 16:9 13.3-inch 10-point multitouch display with minimal bezels.

In terms of connectivity, we get the support of always-on LTE connectivity in addition to standard MU-MIMO support for Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.0. For the ports, we have 2 USB-C ports and a headphone jack.

The laptop also offers a backlight keyboard while the sound is tuned by AKG with Dolby Atmos support. On the power button, Samsung has embedded a fingerprint sensor that results in instant-on performance that you could expect from an ultrabook.
