Samsung files patent for “Under Panel Camera” for future TVs and smartphones

A new patent has been filed from the South Korean tech giant Samsung regarding its almost finalized plans for its futuristic under-display camera technology for the upcoming Samsung smartphones and TVs. Samsung has filed the patent with the trademark “Under Panel Camera” or UPC which is clearly indicating that Samsung has come a long way and almost in the final stage of making its under-display camera technology. The patent falls under the “Smartphone/ TV display panel” category.

In 2020, when we were getting a lot of rumors regarding the S21 series of Samsung, there was a lot of news we got saying that the S21 Ultra will feature an under-display selfie camera. But, unfortunately, it didn’t happen. But, from then we had got to know that Samsung is getting ready with its under-panel camera. On the other hand, coming to its Z-Fold series, a lot of rumors predicted that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 could have an under-display camera module. All of those reports are clearly indicating that Samsung has been working on such a design for quite a while.

The trend of having an under-panel camera got started with the ZTE Axon 20 5G, launched in September 2020. This phone features a huge 6.92-inches full HD+ (1,080×2,460 pixels) display with an aspect ratio of 20:5:9. The display has a 90Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate.
