The introduction of Apple Vision Pro may have forced competitors to rethink their products, notably Samsung, which was rumoured to have extended the release date of its own augmented reality headset to make it a viable alternative. Due to this setback, the head-mounted wearable from the Korean giant is not anticipated to go on sale until June of next year, and even then, there may be some issues.
The Apple Vision Pro features a significantly futuristic look, as well as improved technology and display specifications, prompting Samsung to postpone the release of their AR headset.
According to Revegnus on X, the reveal of Samsung’s rumored AR Headset could take place in June 2024, albeit the individual’s language is rather vague.
Given that the AR headset market is still in its infancy and will take years to mature, Samsung may have production challenges while delivering its first-generation product.
But, the post does not specify if the item will be officially available for purchase in June of next year or if Samsung would merely unveil the AR headset during the rumoured schedule. According to prior rumours, the headset was powered by a last-generation Exynos 2200, a SoC seen in the Galaxy S22 series that is infamous for being inefficient and prone to overheating.
Unlike the Apple Vision Pro, this unnamed AR headset had an internal battery and did not rely on an external puck, although it is unclear whether the commercial version will preserve the same design or switch to the puck to reduce weight.
