Samsung and Vivo record fastest growth in 5G market smartphone shipments in Q1 of 2021

The 5G smartphone market has grown significantly since its inception in the market 2 years ago. According to reports from Strategy Analytics, in Q1 of 2021, Apple leads the market with 40.4 billion shipments. Samsung and Vivo recorded their highest Quarter-on-Quarter growth at 79% and 62%.

Apple witnessed a decline of 23% QoQ in Q1 of 2021, shipping an estimated 40 million units. Its market share dropped from 40.7% in Q4 of 2020 to 29.8% in Q1 of the current year.

Samsung recorded a stellar performance as well owing to its Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra smartphones. The devices sold extremely well in South Korea, North America, and parts of Europe.

Vivo also recorded an impressive growth with their 5G smartphones in Q1 of 2021. It rose up to 62% QoQ to 19 million units shiped.

Their iQOO U3 5G and U7 5G were big reasons for their growth. Oppo followed right behind with 55% QoQ growth and in 5th place was Xiaomi with 41% QoQ growth.

Global 5G smartphone shipments grew a healthy 6% QoQ and hit a record 136 million units during the first quarter of 2021. Demand for 5G smartphones remained very strong, particularly in China, the US, and Western Europe. According to Strategy Analytics, global 5G smartphone shipments are estimated to reach a record 624 million units for the full year of 2021. Increasing from 269 million in 2020.
