CES 2020: 7nm Zen 2 AMD Ryzen 4000U Mobile processors launched

With days, we are getting more leaks about the new Ryzen 4000 mobile APUs and their pretty interesting benchmark scores. AMD is living up to the hype that their Zen 2 architecture on laptops promised for, both power efficiency and performance.

New laptops featuring these APUs are popping up on Geekbench and soon will find its way into the market as well. So @TUM_APISAK has again found the new Ryzen 5 4500U APU running on an unknown Lenovo laptop might be an IdeaPad laptop.

This 6-core and 6-threaded APU performs really well in the Geekbench 4, scoring 4,696 points in the single-core test which is pretty decent considering the fact it is 15W APU only. On the other hand, its competing Intel CPU i.e. the Core i7-1065G7 scores 5,752 points even though being cranked up to 25W TDP.

The Core i7-1065G7 only has four cores but has eight threads thanks to Hyper-Threading while the Ryzen 5 4500U might score better score with its extra two cores. So in multi-core, the Ryzen APU scores 18,819 points against Intel’s 18,772 points, even though the difference is not that much but if the price is to be concerned then AMD will have a greater advantage.

Intel’s availability and pricing issues against AMD’s solid lineup that seems promising this time, the laptop market will surely have a turnover this time. The AMD Ryzen 5 4500U has already appeared on Geekbench 4 before, in an HP Envy x350 convertible with previous multi-core scores of 14,105 points and 15,412 points.

Now in a Lenovo laptop, the Renior APU performs even better even though being at 15W default TDP and ranging between 10W – 25W depending upon the workload, but laptop manufacturers can tweak this with a proper cooling solution to configure it to a permanent 25W TDP to give better performance.
