The 2016 release of the original “Deadpool” film brought in over $780 million globally, and the 2018 follow-up “Deadpool 2” brought in over $785 million.

Early in his career, he starred in films such as “Safe House” (2012), “The Proposal” (2009), and “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder” (2002).

With the huge box office success of “Deadpool,” Reynolds became one of the very few stars who can command $20 million up front for a film. He received a huge $27 million, for example, for his part in the Michael Bay-directed film “6 Underground.”

Reynolds’s financial gain from “Deadpool” was substantial, especially considering that the first film’s base wage was a meager $2 million. However, his overall revenues from the movie shot through the roof because of a lucrative backend contract where he received a cut of the profits.

Despite having a $58 million budget, the film brought in $780 million worldwide. Reynolds became one of the highest-paid actors of 2017 when his profits skyrocketed to about $22 million.
