The Marvel-mounted duo continue to expand their careers with New Projects. Included in that slate is the highly-anticipated return to the MCU with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. But their exploits beyond the MCU are equally exciting. Just last month, they unspooled a detailed teaser for The Electric State that promises to be the next must-see from Netflix. The movie is set to feature the return of Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown and a reunion with Star-Lord Chris Pratt. The visuals in the trailer are mindblowing and not to be missed.
The Upcoming The Electric State
The Russo Brothers produced The Electric State, a film adaptation of Simon Stålenhag’s novel set in an alternate 1990s after the world becomes preoccupied with virtualization and robots are illegal. Set against the backdrop of an orphan, a gunrunner, and a lost boy with Millie Bobby Brown sharing major screen space alongside Chris Pratt. More of a story about saving and bonding with one another while rebuilding an entire planet after it has been torn asunder.
Taking place after the uprising, it paints a picture of our society where robots no longer have equal rights and people are separated from their loved ones. A part where Millie Bobby Brown’s character found out her brother who she thought had died is actually a cyborg. Chris Pratt accompanies her on this perilous journey, making the excitement manifold. The cartoon-style robots make for some cool visuals that aid to film’s artistic endeavor.
The Electric State also stars Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, and Woody Norman; Anthony Mackie and fellow Humans co-star Harriet Walker will provide voices for the robotic characters. The screenplay is crafted by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
The film follows Michelle, determined to find her beloved brother, as she journeys through the American Southwest alongside Cosmo. She reluctantly partners with Keats (Chris Pratt), a low-rent smuggler, and his wisecracking robot sidekick, Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie). Their adventure leads them into the Exclusion Zone, where they encounter a vibrant group of animatronic allies and unravel the dark forces behind Christopher’s disappearance. The Electric State is set to premiere on Netflix on March 14, 2025.
