Odisha FC striker Roy Krishna is set to leave the club at the end of the season and return to New Zealand for another spell. He is expected to sign for the new Auckland A-League team, after spending five years with Wellington Phoenix and establishing himself as a fan favourite.
The Fijian has been in the ISL since 2019, racking up the goals for ATK, as well as ATK Mohun Bagan after their merger. He then played for Bengaluru FC for one season, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 33 games before moving to Odisha at the start of the 2023/24 season.
The latest reports from New Zealand suggest that he could now be on his way back after an impressive spell in India.
Roy Krishna to play for new Auckland club from 24/25
“I would love to come back to the place where I started. I just want to play for the community and I still have it in me to come back home and give something for the people and to the league as well, that was my first professional league. Fingers crossed I can but let’s see what the future holds.”
“People think I’m very old but I am still playing every game, I’ve still got my speed, got more knowledge about football,” Roy Krishna said.
The player also prefers moving back to New Zealand for family reasons, to allow his young daughter to be closer to her extended family.
His departure will be officially confirmed near the end of the season, as nothing has been finalised just yet.
