After being eliminated from the Euros by Belgium in the round of 16, speculation about Cristiano Ronaldo’s club future can begin again. The player currently has one year left on his Juventus contract and is yet to decide on his future.

Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes is yet to officially inform the club regarding the final decision as to whether the Portuguese captain will continue at Juventus or not. Paris Saint-Germain and former club Manchester United have been rumoured as possible destinations for the forward, but at this point, it is mere speculation.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner currently earns a salary worth €31 million at Turin, and is one of the best-paid footballers in the world. He recently became the joint-highest international goalscorer of all time, matching Iranian legend Ali Daei’s record of 109 goals.

However, despite scoring five goals in four games for his national team and making it into the knockout stages, the tournament’s lead scorer was unable to net any goals to guide Portugal into the quarter-finals.

Ronaldo’s spell at Juventus has been successful in the sense of yielding silverware every season. The 36-year-old has also won the Golden Boot on numerous occassions with the Bianconeri, but the Champions League trophy has been out of his reach ever since leaving Real Madrid.

When asked about his future prior to the tournament, Ronaldo indicated himself that he did not know what was going to happen. And the same situation persists as of right now. There are very few clubs who will be able to afford the wages of the player in the current financial climate, and the transfer window, open for the next two months, will be the time for decision-making for all parties involved.
