FC Barcelona’s key center back Ronald Araujo had been recently confirmed by the club to have renewed the contract till 2026 which will see him sealed till he ages 27. Today, the Uruguayan international has officially signed his contract extension at the event that was held at Camp Nou.

This deal is until 30 June 2026 and the buy clause is set at 1 billion euros, this has made a lot of Barca fans happy because of his defensive quality, especially in this young Barca team. He signed the new contract beneath a poster saying The Future is Culer with his family, and also president Joan Laporta at his side.

It is a huge joy to be at Barça” said the Uruguayan defender. “I never doubted that I would stay and I hope to be here for many more years. We certified the agreement at two meetings. We wanted to do our part to help with the situation that the club is in right now.”

The renewal ceremony and the glowing words from FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta go to say how important the defender is to this club. The 23-year-old centre back has been sensational in his performance this year and has been a key part of Xavi’s starting XI, both Araujo & Pique forms the invincible center back duo for the Culers.

Speaking from the Camp Nou pitch, Laporta added that “we want to thank Araujo for his character and commitment. He has opened his heart. He is a footballer of the immediate present, but this also helps us to consolidate our short and long term plans. He is a very talented player who will help us to build a winning Barça.”

With tears in his eyes, the La Masia graduate then said “I want to thank God, my family, for the club and my colleagues for this opportunity. I am getting emotional because it was so hard for me to get where I am today.”
