Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea both want to avoid 2023 reunion

Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea are both on the lookout to avoid a reunion next season. The Belgian striker returned to Inter Milan on loan for 22/23, and is expected to return to Stamford Bridge when his spell expires next June.

The two clubs are working to try and make the move permanent in the coming days. However, an agreement is still a while away considering the high profile nature of the transfer.

After spending two impressive seasons with the Nerazzurri, Romelu Lukaku returned to Chelsea in a club record move worth £97.5 million. However, after a good start initially, his momentum fizzled out under Thomas Tuchel and he was benched for the majority of the season thereafter.

The infamous interview where he promised to return to Inter Milan didn’t help much either. And now, he is back with the Italian side. By the looks of things, Graham Potter doesn’t want the forward in his squad either. So, it is up to the ownership to sort out his future with a contract until 2026 still valid for Lukaku.

Armando Broja and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are the two strikers that Potter has to work with for the ongoing season. And given the new ownership’s plans, the youngster could be given much more opportunities considering the impact he has made off of the bench throughout the season.
