Chelsea to appoint Christoph Freund as new sporting director

Chelsea are set to appoint RB Salzburg’s Christoph Freund as their new sporting director. The club have been searching for a new sporting director for a while, and they are in advanced talks with Freund to take over the role very soon.

The Austrian club have been informed of the imminent agreement between the two parties. Which means that the transfer will soon be complete. So, the transfer strategy in the January window will consist of input from Freund and his work alongside Graham Potter.

Christoph Freund to join Chelsea very soon

Christoph Freund is the man behind the rise of several important talents that have come out of RB Salzburg – which include Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Dayot Upamecano and others.

Beyond the players, the ideas shared with Todd Boehly have been one of the main reasons behind the appointment of Freund. Chelsea are moving away from their old regime, and want to build a stable, long-term project at their club which can be sustainable for years to come.

And with Freund able to identify not only top young stars for the future, but also develop academy talents to be able to break into the first team, the Blues could be set for a new identity altogether under their new ownership.
