End of an Era? Rohit Sharma Likely to Retire from International Cricket After Lord’s ODI

For a player who has given Indian cricket some of its most defining moments, the end may arrive quietly — not on his own terms, but through a selector’s call. Reports suggest the July 19 ODI against England at Lord’s could mark Rohit Sharma’s final appearance in international colours.

What’s Being Reported

According to a report in the Indian Express, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has already spoken to both Rohit and rising opener Yashasvi Jaiswal about the decision, well before the news went public. A BCCI source indicated selectors have informed Rohit he isn’t part of their plans beyond the England series, even as he wished to continue and had worked hard on his fitness. The call, ultimately, has been left to him.

A Fitting, If Bittersweet, Farewell

Rohit reportedly wasn’t pleased that the England series could be his ODI swansong, having already stepped away from Tests and T20Is. His recent returns — 11 and 26 in the ongoing series — haven’t helped his case, but his legacy as one of India’s most successful white-ball captains remains untouched. Fans can follow full series scorecards on the official BCCI website.
