A significant week is coming for the Indian cricket team as the selection committee will be choosing India’s team for the home series against New Zealand. The selectors will officially announce the next white-ball captain. Well, it is an open secret now that the team will be led by Rohit Sharma after Virat Kohli.
Earlier Virat Kohli has announced that he will walk out as a captain from the T20 format and from IPL. After India’s unsatisfactory performance in ICC T20 World Cup, the ODI captaincy is likely to be given to Rohit Sharma.
Rahul Dravid who will be the team’s next coach will have his say about the matter. He isn’t the official coach now but he’s most likely to succeed Ravi Shastri. He has applied for the post although the formal proceedings are yet to be completed.
Rohit Sharma all set to be the caption in both T20 and ODI formats
The next T20 World Cup will be held in 2022 in Australia. A 50 over series will commence in 2023. The BCCI believes having two sets of captains for each series will create a lot of scepticism and they favour the idea of having only one captain. Rohit is currently vice-captain of the team and soon he will be promoted to the skipper’s spot.
Why Rohit Sharma is the best choice for skipper’s position?
Selecting Rohit Sharma as the next captain will be a wise decision that may be fruitful. Here’s why:
- He’s the most successful IPL captain as his team Mumbai Indians won 5 times.
- He has an influence in the team decisions since he was the vice-captain.
- Under his captaincy India has won 15 matches out of 19.
As a captain, Rohit has a better record than Virat. The team needs a good change and he is the perfect choice for it.
