In an exclusive interview with TV Insider, showrunner Chris Sheridan opened up about the cancellation, revealing he had prepared for this outcome. “I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” Sheridan admitted, showing remarkable foresight about the show’s fate.

This advance knowledge actually became a creative advantage. Sheridan explained how knowing the end was near allowed the team to craft a more satisfying conclusion: “Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending.”

A Perfect Send-Off for Fans

Rather than leaving viewers hanging, Sheridan and his team used Season 4 to deliver closure. The showrunner expressed immense pride in the final season’s quality, particularly praising the series finale.

“I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series,” Sheridan shared, highlighting the care taken to honor both the story and its dedicated fanbase.

The Satisfying Conclusion

Sheridan promised that Season 4 would provide a very satisfying ending to audiences who have followed the alien’s journey in small-town America. The series, based on a comic book about an alien assuming a doctor’s identity, has maintained its unique blend of humor and heart throughout its run.

Interestingly, the showrunner revealed that while the ending feels complete, it also “keeps the door open for the future if the project is ever rebooted,” offering a glimmer of hope for potential revival.
