Reliance Jio to offer low-cost 4G smartphones by December: Report

Reliance Jio is preparing to manufacture around 100 million low-cost 4G smartphones that will be built on the Android platform. Along with smartphones, data packs will also be bundled. Reports are saying these phones will come to the Indian market by December or early next year.

Hope you know, Jio and Google recently partnered to develop high-quality entry-level and affordable 4G and 5G enabled smartphones. Needless to say, all these will run on Android OS.

Google joins hand with Jio platforms with ₹ 33,737 crores of investment

An analyst told ET that the jointly developed products can shake up the Indian smartphone market and challenge the dominance of Chinese brands that control over 80% of the market.

While partnering with Jio, Google pours $4.5 billion earlier. Along with Google, let you know, the US-based chipset designer Qualcomm also invested Rs.730 crore to Jio in return of 0.15% stake. That clearly indicates it is also working with Jio closely. So, we can also expect the upcoming 4G and 5G smartphone by Jio will be powered by Qualcomm SoCs.
