Red Dead Redemption 2 Could Launch on Switch 2 by Late 2025

A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 may arrive by the end of 2025, with a potential next-gen upgrade also in development for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Sources reportedly close to Rockstar have said that there will be both a 2 Switch port as well as a patch for current-gen consoles. These changes could even come as early as late 2025, but there’s no confirmation yet.

This same report also suggested that the Switch 2 version is due for Take-Two Interactive’s fiscal year, ending March 31, 2026. It remains uncertain whether this version will be available digitally only or if a physical release is also planned.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in 2018 to critical acclaim for its narrative, open-world nature, and attention to detail. The potential arrival of the game on Nintendo’s upcoming hardware would further expand its reach to new audiences. A port for the Switch 2 isn’t far-fetched, either, particularly after Take-Two’s discussion about the upcoming console.

In the wake of a financial update, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick indicated that he believes there’s good reason to be confident in the platform, noting that Nintendo has vastly improved how it deals with third-party publishers this time.

Zelnick made it official that Take-Two plans to release four games for the Switch 2 — said to be Civilization 7 (releasing June 5), NBA 2K/WWE 2K games, and Borderlands 4 (estimated September 12). These titles are just one step in a larger strategy of adding more games to the service, especially from the publisher’s library of legacy titles. While there’s no indication that GTA 6 will arrive on the Switch 2, the door seems open for earlier titles like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 to make the leap, depending on demand and hardware capability.
