Realme’s first foldable phone and under-display camera phone may launch in 2022. So far, Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi are the only well-known brands that have launched smartphones with foldable displays. It appears that popular Chinese brands including Realme may launch their first foldable smartphones in the coming year.
Meanwhile, a sketch of Realme GT 2 Fold is now doing rounds on social platforms. The image of the foldable phone has revealed its design and some of its key specs. One of the GT branded flagships arriving in 2022 could likely feature an under-display camera.
It’s not confirmed if this is the final design of the foldable phone but we do have an idea of what to expect. Realme is yet to officially announce the launch but its CMO Xu Qi Chase on Weibo hinted at the company’s plans for next year. Chase said that in 2022 under-display camera smartphones and foldables will become more popular.
He added that technologies such as under-display camera and foldable phones will further mature in 2022. This statement from the Realme CMO hints that the brand may launch its first foldable phone and the first phone with an under-screen camera in the coming year.
Earlier this month, Chase had shared an image on Weibo of a smartphone with no visible notch or punch hole for the selfie camera. It was speculated that this could be an under-display selfie camera being developed by Realme.
A sketch that showcases the design of a foldable phone named Realme GT 2 Fold is now doing rounds on social media sites. It reveals that the device has an in-ward folding design like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G.
As can be seen in the image, the GT 2 Fold has a 6.5-inch AMOLED cover display and an 8-inch foldable AMOLED panel inside. Both displays have a punch-hole positioned at the top-right corner. The back panel of the device has a horizontal camera module that includes a pair of 50-megapixel cameras. It seems to feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the right side, whereas its left appears to be fitted with volume up and down buttons. Its bottom edge appears to be flanked with a USB Type-C port as well as a speaker grille.
Realme wouldn’t be the first to launch a foldable phone or one with an under-display selfie camera but it could help in bringing these phones to the more affordable price segment. At present, Samsung is the most popular brand for foldables but these phones still cater to the luxury premium segment.
