Real Madrid defeated their city rivals Atletico Madrid 2-0 in the derby to further strengthen their claim on the La Liga top spot. Goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio helped Los Blancos extend their winning run in La Liga to 6 games on the spin.
Vinicius Jr and Karim Benzema combined for the fifth time in La Liga this season, which is the most of any duo in the league. The Brazilian launched in a cross for the number 9, which was shot past Jan Oblak to open the scoring.
Marco Asensio would then find the back of the net in the second half, after being unmarked in the box. Vinicius Jr showed off his brilliance yet again, and now has four assists alongside 10 goals in the league.
Real Madrid are unplayable in current form
Luka Modric would also get a standing ovation from the Santiago Bernabeu, as he dominated the midfield against the city rivals. With the win against Atletico, Carlo Ancelotti has led Real Madrid to a 10-game winning streak. He now has the highest win rate in the entire history of Real Madrid.
The bright spot for Atletico, however, was Joao Felix. The Portuguese has struggled with injuries but was the creative spark for the Rojiblancos after coming off the bench. Felix did well in the derby to try and create chances, but could not do enough to salvage the game for his team.
Real Madrid are now 8 points clear of Sevilla, in second place. The defending champions are in fourth place, 13 points away from the top with a game in hand.
