Razer’s high-tech N95 mask dubbed Project Hazel to go into production

At the all-digital CES 2021, Razer, a gaming lifestyle company, announced an N95 respirator dubbed Project Hazel. The product was unveiled as a concept product but in a new twist, Min-Liang Tan, Razer CEO, has disclosed in an interview with Yahoo Finance that “Project Hazel is going to be a reality”.

“We were thinking, this is a concept project and this is going to be relevant when vaccinations and everything have been rolled out,” he said. “I think moving forward we decided, and I can tell you now, we are going to proceed in making it a reality and ship the smart mask.”

With the uncertainty of effectiveness surrounding the rollout of the coronavirus vaccines globally and the continued rise in the mortality rates and the number of coronavirus patients, the use of masks for protection won’t stop any time soon. This is apparently why Project Hazel is being transformed from concept to reality.

The mask utilizes ventilators that are detachable and rechargeable and also serve as voice amplifiers as embedded inside the mask are microphones. The outside has a glossy finish and is made from waterproof and scratch-resistant recycled plastic.

According to Gizmo China, “In Razer’s trademark manner, the nose mask is designed with RGB Chroma lighting which allows the two ventilators to glow, and even automatically shine light onto your mouth when it gets dark, so others can see you speaking.” Adjustable ear loops are also present.

“We realized the sustainability aspect since disposable masks aren’t the most sustainable.” Tan said they took their time researching and developing the “very best mask”.

“So with that in mind, we are going to go ahead and solve the sustainable aspect of the mask which is one of the big things for us. Project Hazel is going to be a reality. We are going to make it happen and I think we will all will be, unfortunately, wearing masks for a long time to come.”
