Nearly three decades into her career, Rani Mukerji has added something new to her list of achievements — an Honorary Doctor of Letters from Australia’s La Trobe University. The recognition celebrates not just her contribution to Indian cinema, but her long-standing support for women, children, and marginalized communities.
For an actor known for choosing roles that carry social weight, this honor feels less like a career milestone and more like validation of a philosophy she’s held onto since the beginning.

What Rani Mukerji Said
Reflecting on the honor, Mukerji spoke about starting out with no roadmap and simply trying to do meaningful work. She shared that she has always gravitated toward stories that move her personally — ones with the power to inspire and empower — and that she’s used cinema to quietly represent the strength of Indian women. Receiving recognition for staying true to that approach, she said, only reinforces her resolve to keep telling those stories.

The production house also marked the occasion on social media, calling it a deeply humbling moment nearly thirty years into her career. The message reflected on how every role and every story has shaped who she is today, framing the doctorate as recognition of a journey built on purposeful storytelling.
