Is this the film that turns things around for one of Telugu cinema’s biggest stars? Ahead of the release of Ranabaali, Vijay Deverakonda told fans at the pre-release event that he is confident about bouncing back after a run of underwhelming films.
What Vijay Said on Ranabaali?
Vijay praised the festival-like mood around the film and said Ranabaali will make the Telugu industry proud. He explained that director Rahul Sankrityan wanted to make a mass period action drama and researched deeply before writing it, which led him to an unknown chapter of history.
According to Vijay, a conventional historical film wouldn’t have had the same impact. He said Rahul found a strong purpose for the story and imagined it on a grand scale.

A Comeback Promise, Revisited
Vijay also recalled the criticism he faced after NOTA’s failure, around the time Taxiwaala released. Back then, he wrote a letter promising a comeback, aware that many people were enjoying his setbacks. He said he reminded his critics he would be “bloody back” when he says so, and that Rahul is building a strong base for him again. In his view, confidence and dedication are the only things within one’s control.
The Story of Ranabaali
The film is set during the Great Madras Famine of 1876-1878. It follows Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, a legendary warrior from the hills of Rayalaseema who was born under a mysterious prophecy. A skilled horseman, he leads a peaceful village life with his wife, Jayamma, until a devastating famine, worsened by colonial greed and cruelty, shatters it. When the ruthless officer Sir Theodore Hector threatens his land and people, Ranabaali rises to defend their freedom with his wife’s support.
