Ralf Rangnick has been officially announced as the new head coach of the Austrian national team ahead of the 2022 World Cup. The 63-year-old has signed a two-year contract until 2024, with a clause for an automatic extension if he can help the team qualify for Euro 2024.

Despite taking the role in charge of the Austrian national team, he will continue his job as the consultant of Manchester United. Erik Ten Hag has been announced as the new manager of the club, and Rangnick will be advising the club in terms of transfers to help restore them to their former glory.

Ralf Rangnick named Austria national team head coach

“I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United,” Ralf Rangnick said.

“I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force again.

“It is an honour for me to take on the role of [Austria] manager,” he added.

“The prospect of contesting the European Championships in Germany with a young team hungry for success fills me with great anticipation.”

Right after the season with Manchester United is over, Rangnick will be linking up with the Austrian national team. He will be taking charge of them in the Nations League, with Croatia, Denmark and France all drawn into the same group.
