As an operator skin, Ubisoft is adding a franchise icon from Xbox’s Halo games to its tactical Tom Clancy FPS Rainbow Six Siege. Rainbow Six Siege has been a constant in the domain of popular competitive shooters and a feather in Ubisoft’s FPS cap for several years after a difficult 2015 launch. In an attempt to capitalise on the success of Siege, Ubisoft launched Rainbow Six Extraction in 2022, to mixed reviews.
Rainbow Six Siege has provided a platform for a diverse range of operator skins and bundles as a nearly decade-old ongoing live service title.
As a result, like its competitor Call of Duty, Siege is no stranger to exciting crossovers with other prominent brands, but these are mainly limited to video games. When Ubisoft’s own Splinter Cell protagonist Sam Fisher debuted in Siege, he generated controversy, since fans were growing upset with Ubisoft’s lack of true Splinter Cell plans at the time. Of course, Ubisoft’s crown jewel Assassin’s Creed franchise made an appearance in Rainbow Six Siege with the Master Assassin bundle, while 2B and Nier from Square Enix’s Nier franchise were also released as Siege skins last year.
Klobrille uploaded a video on Twitter depicting Halo’s Master Chief in-game as an Elite skin for Sledge, bringing yet another gaming icon to Rainbow Six Siege. The Chief dons his Halo Infinite Mjolnir armour, which is inspired by Halo 3’s outfit, and wields Sledge’s hammer, which has been modified to resemble a Halo Gravity Hammer. The movie also included an animation in which Chief uses his grapple hook from Halo Infinite to destroy a Plasma Grenade with his hammer.
While it’s unusual to see Master Chief swinging a sledgehammer, the fact that he’s a skin for Sledge makes sense, as Sledge is the face of Rainbow Six Siege in the same way that the Chief is the face of Halo. Though the skin is beautiful, the sledgehammer cuts through a piece of armour on Chief’s back as he puts it on his shoulder. This could explain why Rainbow Six has yet to publicly confirm or release the package. If this is the case, switching the skin to a different operator, such as Smoke or Mute, may relieve the clipping issue.
