Qualcomm Technologies Accelerates 5G Innovation at Snapdragon for India Event

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a global leader in wireless technology, recently made groundbreaking announcements at the Snapdragon for India event in Delhi. The event underscored Qualcomm’s commitment to driving innovation and expanding 5G access in the Indian market.

Qualcomm Debuts 5G Chipset to Make Gigabit 5G More Affordable, and Unveils New Snapdragon X Series Compute Lineup for the Indian Market 

Showcasing Innovation and Leadership

The event brought together Qualcomm’s global leaders for Mobile and Compute, alongside the India leadership team. Key ecosystem partners, media, analysts, and industry influencers also joined the gathering. The spotlight was on Qualcomm’s dedication to fostering innovation and empowering communities in India for over two decades.

Lt. Gen. Dr. SP Kochhar, Director General at Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), emphasized the transformative potential of 5G in India. Navkendar Singh, Associate Vice President with IDC India, discussed the challenges of 5G adoption, while Varun Mayya, CEO and founder of Aeos Labs, highlighted the future of generative AI and content creation.

Introducing Snapdragon 4s Gen 2

One of the major highlights was the introduction of the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, a game-changer for entry-level mobile experiences. With Gigabit 5G connectivity, robust power efficiency for all-day battery life, and advanced camera capabilities, this chipset aims to democratize 5G access for over 600 million Indian smartphone users.

Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets at Qualcomm Technologies said, “The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 Mobile Platform is a significant step towards making 5G technology more accessible to millions of people at the entry tier. By balancing affordability and strong performance with all-day battery life, we are enabling widespread access to 5G for a smoother transition for consumers looking to upgrade from 4G.”

Empowering India’s Digital Transformation

Savi Soin, Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm India, spoke about the broader vision for 5G in India. “Access to 5G will be a key factor towards furthering India’s journey of digital transformation and securing its presence as a global player. With the 5G rollout in India a success, our vision is to make sure every Indian can enjoy its benefits with affordable devices.”

Collaboration with Industry Leaders

The event also highlighted Qualcomm’s collaboration with key industry players. Sunil Dutt, President – Devices at Jio, commented, “Qualcomm Technologies’ cutting-edge 5G platforms, combined with Jio’s largest, widest, and fastest network, will enable True 5G for ALL Indians. Qualcomm Technologies’ support has been instrumental in Jio’s journey to becoming the largest mobile-data operator in the world.”

Xiaomi India will be among the first to adopt the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2. Muralikrishnan B, President of Xiaomi India, noted, “We are excited to be working with Qualcomm Technologies to enable access to gigabit-fast connectivity for users across India. Many people have yet to experience the benefits of 5G, and thanks to Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, Xiaomi can bring 5G connectivity to a broader audience.”

Expanding Beyond Mobile

Qualcomm Technologies is not just transforming mobile experiences; it’s also making strides in the computing sector. The company introduced the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus, designed to power next-gen AI experiences on PCs. Collaborations with leading PC OEMs like Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, and Lenovo will bring advanced AI-led experiences to the Windows ecosystem.

Kedar Kondap, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Compute and Gaming at Qualcomm Technologies, said, “Modern PC experiences require platforms that provide the best performance without sacrificing battery life. The Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus embody the pinnacle of performance. Snapdragon X Series-powered Copilot+ PCs are the ideal platforms for unlocking the full potential of next-gen AI apps for PCs.”
