Qualcomm and Samsung extend their Chipset partnership till 2030

Qualcomm said that it had decided to give Samsung another seven years to continue using its patents. The extension of the contract ensures that Qualcomm technology, including chipsets and networking hardware, will continue to be used in future Galaxy devices and Samsung PCs through the year 2030.

More specifically, the patent license deal between Samsung and Qualcomm has been expanded to cover networking technologies like 3G, 4G, 5G, and the impending 6G standard. In real terms, this means that customers of Galaxy devices can anticipate Qualcomm network and chipset support in the majority of phones and tablets for the rest of the decade.

Once more, this partnership goes beyond the mobile industry. Samsung is allowed to utilize Qualcomm hardware across a range of product categories, including PCs, extended reality devices, smartphones, tablets, and “and more.”

The relationship between Samsung and Qualcomm extends beyond network technology and includes the Snapdragon SoC space.

“Qualcomm’s innovative technology has played a pivotal role in [the] advancement of [the] mobile industry. The collaboration between Samsung and Qualcomm spans many years, and these agreements reflect our close and long-standing strategic partnership,” said President and Head of MX Business at Samsung Electronics Dr TM Roh.

The Galaxy S23 series will reportedly only run on Snapdragon chipsets, despite Samsung’s claims that it hasn’t given up on its own Exynos chipsets.

Approximately 70–75% of all Galaxy S22 devices sold globally use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, and Qualcomm CEO stated in a recent interview that future Galaxy models will lean even more heavily towards Snapdragon solutions.
