Qualcomm is the biggest smartphone processor supplier, and in earlier days, Huawei was an economic consumer to it. But now, Huawei has to rely on Qualcomm as it has got the permission from the US government to supply 4G products to the Chinese smartphone giant.
A Qualcomm spokesperson told Reuters, “We received a license for a number of products, which includes some 4G products,” Though she didn’t disclose in details about the specific 4G products, but confirmed that the products are related to the mobile devices. She also said that Qualcomm has some other license permissions pending too, with the US government.
Huawei, earlier, use its own Kirin processors for its flagship smartphones and Qualcomm chips for the lower-end phones. Currently due to the trade ban and instruction to not using US Technologies force Huawei to depend on Qualcomm or other SoC makers.
No doubt, these Qualcomm 4G chips will be a support for Huawei but not fully as the world is slowly switching to 5G at present.
Apart from Qualcomm, some other companies like Micron Technologies are also willing to contribute Huawei. Intel also said that it has a license to sell to Huawei.
